Totally Tasha Tuesday-Ball Jar Sewing Kit

Girlfriends are the BEST! They've always got your back. Just as I found myself thinking of what to blog about next, my BFF Leslie, emailed me a picture that inspired this craft idea!

This Antropologie Ball Jar Sewing Kit sells for a mere $48.00!!!!! That's right, its not a type-o! $48 BIG ONES for a jar with thread & buttons. As soon as I saw the picture, I knew I had to whip up a bunch for Christmas and hostess gifts. I do sew, so I had most of the items on hand. I even had the Ball jars.

It did so happen that the monthly antique market near me was
this past Sunday, so I was able to grab a few spools of vintage
thread for $1.00 but you could easily use regular thread.
Manicure scissors are just the right size for the kit.

I didn't have measuring tapes but I did have iron-on
transfer paper and fabric scraps so I made my own! All
I had to do was Google it and there it was. Click HERE for the
link. Copy & paste the images, but be sure to reverse/flip
it before printing it on iron-on transfer paper.

I experimented with the pin cushions. A sand filled nylon
was a better pin cushion but much messier & harder to
make than the polyfill one. Both look and work just fine.

Here it is!
The Anthro-inspiration! $48.00-WOW!

This is a fantastic idea! I have some really cute old aqua Ball jars that would be so pretty for this. My jaw dropped when I read the $48 price tag and I actually had to Google it to see it for myself. And yep, there it was....48 bucks for items I have picked up here and there at garage sales for change. I am certain I can put together this with items I have on hand that only cost about $1. I love DIY and this will make fantastically pretty and practical Christmas gifts. Thank you for sharing this!! I totally MUST follow your blog.

I would also love to know how you added the pin cushion? I am thinking of making these for some of my girlfriends for Christmas. They're so cute!

Tasha Anderson said...

A couple people have asked how I made the pin cushion. While I don't have exact directions because it was kind of trial and error, I will give you some general directions. I made one using poly-fill and one with sand. The sand I out in a small fabric bag and then cut a circle larger than the lid size. Glue your little fabric sand filled pouch to the top of the flat lid part and then cover and glue burlap over it. Cut off excess burlap and stuff through lid ring carefully securing with more glue. Be careful because the glue makes the lid super hot! I hope this makes sense:)
